Based at Christchurch International Airport, our modern facility is set up to cater specifically for student training, while still allowing a good mix with our commercial clients.
Our training staff are highly skilled, and as they are involved in commercial activities on a daily basis, are able to pass on valuable experience to students. There are also opportunities for the student to assist as ground crew on commercial operations, expanding their knowledge and obtaining ﾓreal lifeﾔ experiences.
 Christchurch Helicopters is certified by the NZ Civil Aviation Authority under Part 141 for Flight Training and Part 135 for Air Transport operations. The Chief Pilot is an ﾓAﾔ Category Instructor and is also an approved Flight Examiner allowing all PPL Flight Tests to be undertaken in house.
All theory courses are also catered for in house, alleviating any problems with studying in one city and then having to move to another for the practical flight training. Flight training is carried out in the Robinson R22 helicopter; we currently operate six at our Christchurch Base. As an entry-level helicopter they provide an excellent platform for initial training before venturing into larger helicopters and the more advanced and powerful turbine machines.
Having our designated low flying area only minutes away from our base means you do not spend half of the lesson time just flying between points A to B. With mountain training our specialty, our proximity to the Southern Alps allows us to train our students in a demanding environment, where the varied weather patterns and terrain provide some of the most challenging conditions available in NZ.
