We depart from the Christchurch Helicentre and fly west over the Canterbury Plains towards the magnificent Southern Alps. Flying into the spectacular Waimakariri Gorge we enjoy a low level flight through this world-renowned river canyon, the gateway to the South Island?s Main Divide, the high mountain chain that divides the Island in two. We then climb out of the gorge to land at high altitude on a peak overlooking the plains and mountains with 360-degree views, which can only be described as massive.
We re-board the helicopter for a thrilling descent over the Ashley River and Lee?s Valley before flying back to Christchurch.
Cameras are a must on this flight, which also has a popular Jet Boat option. Your helicopter lands in the Waimak Gorge and you board the
waiting Jet Boat for a thrilling 30-minute ride through the narrow canyon in this uniquely kiwi boating experience.
Disembark from the boat on the riverbank to re-board the helicopter and continue the flight.
